The Children in Climate Change Initiative (Triple-C), implemented by Green Diversity Africa (GDA), is a youth-focused climate education and action programme designed to empower children in Ghana to become active participants in environmental protection and climate resilience.
Climate change continues to pose serious threats to communities in Ghana, including flooding, drought, deforestation, and declining agricultural productivity. Children are among the most affected, yet they are often excluded from environmental decision-making. The Triple-C Initiative addresses this gap by equipping children with the knowledge, skills, and leadership opportunities needed to respond to climate challenges.
The project focuses on climate education, environmental action, child leadership, and community engagement. It introduces climate education programmes in schools, establishes Climate Clubs, and promotes practical activities such as tree planting, waste reduction, and ecosystem restoration. Children are also supported to become Climate Ambassadors who lead awareness campaigns and inspire their peers.
A key feature of the initiative is the “Tree for Every Child” campaign, where each child is encouraged to plant and care for at least one tree. The project also includes a Climate Innovation Challenge, which encourages students to develop creative solutions to environmental problems, as well as community climate action days that strengthen collaboration between schools and local communities.
The initiative targets approximately 10,000 children across 50 schools and 30 communities, along with teachers, parents, and local stakeholders. Through these activities, the project aims to build environmental awareness, strengthen climate resilience, and promote sustainable behaviors among young people.
Overall, the Triple-C Initiative is investing in the next generation of climate leaders by turning classrooms into hubs of environmental action. It empowers children not only to learn about climate change but to actively shape a greener and more sustainable future for their communities and the world.
